Robert Hairston

Robert Alfred Hairston Sr. passed away surrounded by family and loved ones at his home in Blacklick, OH on November 1, 2018.

He was born April 24, 1935 in Columbus, OH to the late Thomas Roy, Sr., and Birdie Goldie Hairston. Robert is survived by his caring children; Stacy (Carl) Slaughter, Robert Burbridge, Cindy Hairston, Christy (Tymar, Sr.) Whitsett, siblings; Thomas R. Hairston, Jr., and Richard (Yolanda) Hairston. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Hilda R. Hairston and children; Albert Burbridge, Jr., Cathy Burbridge and Robert Hairston Jr.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from September 14, 1953 to his Army Reserve Terminal Date of September 13, 1961. He continued to serve the government of the United States as a US Postal Service in Logistics and has many letters of appreciation, exemplary service and proof of commitment through longevity. Retirement from the USPS came in 1984.

Robert and the late Hilda Hairston committed themselves to family and GOD over the 50 years they shared as husband and wife. Together they raised 2 grandchildren, Christopher Hairston and Derricka Richey. At some point in time they also participated in raising these grands as well; Keyata and Korey Sawyer, Renita Adams, and Shante Banks. He also leaves to mourn additional grandchildren; Cathy Howard, Maurice Campbell, Porchea (Marcus) Ways, Courtney Hairston, Tymar, Jr. and Cayla Whitsett, Rodney and Robert Burbridge, Jr. Great grandchildren; T'Maya, Cierra and Auriele Howard, Cameron, Alexis, Alyse Stitt and Alayah Banks, Daiquania, Dawann Jones, Quonterious and Kyizen Morgan, Jahavi Bingham, Casie Hairston, Christopher, Maurice, Zariyah, Honestie, Sincere, Khymauri, Kyleah, Sawyer, Briyanna, Alexis and Jayden Rogers.

Mr. B. and Brother Bob, as he's fondly known, and his bride served the Body of Christ as church members of Holy Temple Church of God, Inc. for over 30 years including as Deacon and Deaconess. He did everything with his wife and did much for his family even until the last few weeks of his life.

During Robert's illness which began in 2015, he never complained about where this would end but stood strong in the face of adversity. Now, he's made it "over the hill", as he stated in late October. He truly appreciated life with Holy Spirit.
