Remembering the Life of Monique Cherise Simpson-Andrews Monique was born on November 16, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Louise Perkins Simpson Leal and the late Mr. Peter Simpson. She was reared by her Stepfather, Mr. Leonard Leal. She was a member of The Way of Holiness Church, IV in New Orleans until she moved to Ohio after Katrina. She departed from this life on October 13, 2025.
Monique loved people and loved to cook just like her Mom! It made her heart glad to see how much people enjoyed eating what she cooked. She cooked for everyone almost every day until her health started to fail. She also loved being at home and watching TV. She loved Chuck Norris, In the Heat of the Night, and NYPD Blues. White Diamonds was her favorite perfume. She loved her bed as well. She would say, “My bed is calling me!” She didn’t like to travel very far. Whenever she had to go somewhere, she would say, “I’m trying to go where I need to, then take me home! I’m not gas happy!”
She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Perkins Simpson Leal, her father, Mr. Peter Simpson, her step-father, Leonard Leal, Sr., her brothers- Gary Simpson, and Chisesi Simpson, and her son, Lavele Simpson as well as her grandparentsCora Perkins Bell, Louis Perkins, Sr., and Will Bell; her uncles, Louis Perkins, Jr., Clarence Perkins, Sr., Monroe Perkins, Sr., Claude Bean, Sr., Curtis Abbott, Sr., Emanuel Johnson, Sr., and Elder Frank McGee; her aunts, Mother Beatrice Johnson, and Mary Perkins as well as her Mother-in-law, Odile Andrews and Father-in-law, Johnny Andrews..
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Quinton Andrews, her brother- Leonard Leal, Jr. of New Orleans, La., and sister, Tanya Taylor of Jonesboro, Georgia, her aunts, Bishop Dr. Christine C. McGee of Columbus, Ohio, Pastor Clementine Bean of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and Elder Lucille Abbott of Houston, Texas, Deacon Jackie ‘Shack’ Perkins (Pastor Johnnie Perkins) of Columbus, Ohio, as well as her children- Derrick (Deshea)Simpson of Williamsburg, Virginia, Errolyn Simpson of New Orleans, La., Dana Simpson and Lana Simpson of Columbus, Ohio, Ernest Simpson of Hammond, Louisiana, Russell Simpson of Columbus, Ohio, Dominique Simpson of San Antonio, Texas, and Latanya Simpson of Houston, Texas, as well as her granddaughter that she raised Taniyah Simpson, along with 16 other grandchildren.
