Marc Capen Zachariah McDonald

December 24, 1977 — February 18, 2026

Columbus

Marc Capen Zachariah McDonald died February 18, 2026 in Columbus, OH, at the age of 48, after an arduous battle with glioblastoma. Born in Kendallville, IN on December 24, 1977, he lived a challenging life that ended with a challenging illness.

Marc loved his family to a fault. He struggled with many demons throughout his life, but tried to love all of his children as best as he could. After working decades in factories, Marc chose to try a role as a homemaker while working hard on continually improving his video game development, cooking skills, talent for building better computers for less, and a splash of many other ventures. In his final months, he created a conceptual project with the goal of ending the struggles of humanity by utilizing technology in space.

Marc tried to find and include humor in every facet of life and injected it into mundane conversations, silence, heartfelt moments, and the trials of daily existence - including favorites (or least favorites) like: disturbing food combinations, embarrassing himself for others' amusement (he would want you to know that Takis and mouthwash are not pleasant together), and plenty of inside jokes he shared with his loved ones, yo. After 10 years in Columbus and following his glioblastoma diagnosis, he married his longtime partner on Halloween with truly extraordinary family and friends in attendance. We miss you.

Marc is preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Whirledge; grandmother, Minnie (Hite) Whirledge; grandfather, Ellis Whirledge; and brother, Steven Latta. He is survived by wife, Rebecca Haney; son, Kaegan McDonald; daughters, Krystal McDonald and Lilly Taylor; stepchildren, Storm (Haney) Siano and her husband, Robert, Avalon Haney, Salem (legal name Dorian) Haney; brothers, Philip Latta, Jr., Christopher Latta, Christopher McDonald, and Erick Temple; father, Philip Latta; a plethora of nieces and nephews; and his beloved animals, Andy the cat and Lola the squirrel.

We want to thank everyone who assisted in his caregiving with very special thanks to Taylynn, Gwen, Dr. Hiremath, and Ken (Marc's guardian during his crossover).

A private service will be held after cremation. In lieu of flowers, Marc would appreciate you feeding yourself something you love, buying yourself a Squishmallow (because they make the best pillows), or donating to glioblastoma research or assistance programs, such as Brain Tumor Network or Go With The Good, for those who have been diagnosed. But most importantly, be with those you love. Give to them and show them how much they mean to you. And, of course, apologize when you should.
