Lula Mae, a cherished member of the Columbus community, passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on May 9, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, Lula lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and friends.

Lula was known for her unwavering compassion and vibrant personality. She had a unique ability to light up any room she entered, always armed with a joke and a positive outlook on life. Her directness and candid nature were endearing qualities that endeared her to those around her. She was truly about business, engaging in every aspect of her life with a sense of purpose and joy. She was a proud member of her church and served on the usher board and sung in the choir.  She was one of the "Golden Girls" from her church.

Education played an important role in her life, as she graduated from Central High School in Downtown Columbus. This foundation contributed to her strong work ethic and commitment to lifelong learning. Beyond her educational accomplishments, Lula enjoyed a variety of pastimes. She found joy in working puzzles, reading Stephen King novels, and taking walks around her neighborhood. These hobbies provided her not only with entertainment but also with moments of reflection and relaxation.

Family was at the heart of Lula's world. She had a special affection for family gatherings, often relishing the opportunity to celebrate together. Lula particularly enjoyed Mother's Day, as it fell so close to her birthday, making it a double celebration filled with warmth and love. She found delight in playfully teasing her son Steve, often giving him a gentle bop on the head that spoke to their affectionate bond.

Lula is survived by her loving children: John Thomas, Alice Thomas, Faith Thomas, Steve Thomas, and David Thomas. Her legacy includes not only her children but also twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her spirit forward.

While Lula will be deeply missed, her memory will live on through the stories shared at family gatherings and the countless lives she touched with her kindness. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Louise Windom; daughter, Mable Thomas; sister, Gloria Love; and brothers, Fred Junior Windom and Gilbert Windom.

Lula Mae Brown leaves behind a legacy of affection, resilience, and joy that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
