Leon Grimes

Leon Grimes, a beloved musician and cherished family member, passed away on February 24, 2026, in hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Born on November 10, 1949, Leon’s life was marked by his deep passion for music and an unwavering commitment to his family.

From a young age, Leon showed immense talent and devotion to his craft, playing the banjo and djembe drums with various bands throughout his life. His musical contributions brought joy to many, showcasing his innate ability to connect with others through rhythm and song. He was not only a remarkable musician but also a humorous and good-natured individual, known for his quiet yet outgoing personality. A good student, Leon’s likability and sense of humor left a lasting impression on those around him.

Leon was especially proud of his accomplishments, particularly his independence, which he maintained against the odds. He remained a constant source of encouragement and care for his family, always checking in and wanting updates. Leon is survived by his sister, Sheila Grimes, and his nephews Tody Giles, Steven L Giles, Alexander Mitchell Jr., and Nathaniel Alexander, along with his nieces Shelly Giles, Elizabeth Grimes, Alexis Mitchell, and Mackenzie Spain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Elizabeth Grimes, his sister Diane Giles, and his brother Duane Grimes.
