Larry Wayne "Okie" Bridges, a Master Electrician and proud Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy, has gone adventuring in God's company. Larry was an innovator throughout his entire life and famously claimed to be the creator of the phrase "Cool beans". He was known for his unique sayings, including "Not every time, but all the time" and "I reckon".
He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Judith Wolford. Larry leaves behind his daughters, Brandy Criss; Kate Van Meter (and husband Joe); and Megan Bridges (his lookalike.) Larry was a proud grandfather many times over to: Dakota Criss, Victoria "Bella" Wright, Morgan Bridges, Kenneth Talon Criss, Michael Van Meter, and Jonathan Van Meter. He is also survived by his stepmother, Glenda Bridges; his brothers, Jim and Rick VanDeventer; his niece, Kara McDowell; and his nephew, Zachariah DeBrugge.
Larry is awaited in heaven by his parents, Waltsue and JW "Dub" Bridges; his brothers, Ed and Lonnie Bridges; and his sister, Carol Bridges Surber.
A man of distinct character, Larry was sarcastic, funny, incredibly intelligent, and stubborn as the day is long. He was a source of wisdom and a fantastic confidant who truly enjoyed a good argument. He was always there for others, regardless of the reason, and offered support without judgment.
Some of the family's fondest memories include Larry pretending to be a troll hiding under the footpath bridge at the Eddie Jones Park to play "3 Billy Goats Gruff" with his daughters, his late-night tuned-up mobility scooter races to the gas station with Megan, and his yearly Christmas tradition of gifting his and Brandy's favorite Queen Anne chocolate-covered cherries to everyone.
A born-again Christian, Larry was also a dedicated supporter of Saint Jude’s and had a special place in his heart for the V-Tech program at the Chillicothe VA.
