Columbus

Jerry Vonville, age 74 of Grandview, Ohio, passed on to Heaven August 20, 2025, while his beloved faithful dog, Tulip, was by his side. He was born on January 18, 1951 on the east side of Columbus.

Those who took the opportunity and time to really get to know Jerry were given a priceless gift; his friendship and now many fond memories to cherish. A kind-hearted, generous, humorous, talented, fun-loving, gentle man, Jerry was truly one of a kind. To know him was to love him!

Jerry was generous with his time. He was always willing to lend a helping hand be it during his time working at the Catholic Cathedral, Media Group and Mills James to volunteering as a corner monitor for the Grandview Bike Race, Pumpkin Run, and Columbus Marathon, to remodeling, repairing, and refinishing projects for friends and neighbors.

Jerry was a great problem solver and no matter the problem, he was willing to help find a solution. He could fix just about anything. His craftsmanship was top-notch… be it woodworking, plumbing, dry-walling, painting, installing carpet or landscaping. When Jerry wasn’t helping others, he enjoyed working on his own house and yard projects.

Jerry worked hard but always made sure to set aside time at the end of his day of work for relaxation with his dog and a mug or two of his homemade iced tea. His leisure time included doing a variety of things. He enjoyed sitting with his dog on his front porch or back deck talking to neighbors or just simply relaxing outdoors. He liked watching TV… sports (Reds baseball, LeBron James basketball, OSU football, WWF wrestling)… movies (Hallmark movies, Mash, 3 Stooges, Iron Man, Deadpool, John Wick, Jurassic Park, etc.)… cartoons (Schrek, How to Train Your Dragon, etc.)

Jerry enjoyed eating food that he cooked on his George Foreman grill, as well as eating dinners at the homes of his closest friends. German chocolate cake, brats and sauerkraut at the “Scotts” was one of his favorite meals. Every holiday, Jerry had at least one invitation to join his dear friends for a holiday dinner and festivities. He was loved and was considered just one of the family. Holidays were brighter with Jerry’s humor and company.

Jerry also liked to eat sweet…chocolate donuts, pecan pie, and candy to name a few. He always had a bowl filled with a variety of seasonal candies to offer his visitors and to eat himself. He especially liked when black jelly beans came out at Easter time.

Jerry stayed active by working out 2 to 3 times a week at the Grandview Rec Center. He enjoyed bowling and had a score of 300. He also went for walks with his dog down the back alley. Jerry loved dogs and always had a dog in his life.

Jerry looked forward to the Christmas season because he enjoyed decorating and transforming his living and dining rooms into a Christmas wonderland of colored lights, moving elves and carolers, a miniature Christmas town on the mantle and model trains circling the Christmas tree. A jar or two of Christmas candy was placed on each small side table. Throughout the season, Jerry would take time to turn on Christmas music and just sit and relax enjoying the music, lights, decorations, and the trains circling the tree. Jerry was definitely a good example of taking time to enjoy the little things in life.

Jerry is survived by his beloved dog, Tulip, and his family of friends and neighbors: Jeff, Becky, Justin, Cate & Elvis; Scott (Jr.), Brianna (Brenda), Alex, Elizabeth, Dr. Scott, Harriett (Char) & Daisy; Pam; Carmelina; Ron & Jill; John & Judy; Patrice; friends at Grandview Rec Center.

Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved dog Pudzy and dog friend “Lugie”; his beloved and loving Grandma, his beloved Dad, & his longtime good friend and neighbor Joe, and his loving neighbor Mary.

Jerry’s remains will be buried at Sunset Cemetery on West Broad Street at a future date unknown at this time.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on December 12, 2025; 10:30-11:30AM at the Grandview Rec Center. Pecan pie and chocolate donuts (two of Jerry’s favorites) will be provided in Jerry’s honor.
