IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Max
Markley
March 13, 1930 – March 13, 2026
Jerry Max Markley, aged 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep early in the morning on his birthday, Friday, March 13, 2026. He was born March 13, 1930, to John Lester and Pauline Mary (VanMiddlesworth) Markley in Augusta, Kansas. He is survived by his son, David (Edna), granddaughters, Cheryl Markley, Elizabeth (Connor) Ferguson, Michelle (Andrew) Majerus, Rachel (Austin) Solze, six great grandsons, and his sister Alice (James) Winzer. He is preceded in death by his wife Sally Louise (Ashby) Markley, his parents, brother Lowell (Alice) Markley, sister Josephine (Lemoine) Wimberly, and brother John (Martha) Markley.
After graduating from Augusta High School, he joined the Navy. During his service he was stationed in California where he met his wife Sally. They married on July 9, 1955, and then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to be close to Sally's family. He and Sally were active in their church and volunteered their time often. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and were in a bowling league. Jerry worked in various engineering and repair roles over the years, retiring from Nicholas Plastics in 1995. He and Sally moved to Gahanna, Ohio in 1997 to be close to his son’s family.
He was really good at fixing things and was always helping family, friends, and his church. He was the kind of neighbor that would cut your grass without being asked, if he knew you didn’t have a mower. For several years he volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross, helping people without transportation get to and from medical appointments. He volunteered for several years with his church’s Habitat for Humanity group helping to build houses for those in need. He was an avid amateur inventor, designing and building machines and mechanical devices for various purposes.
We will hold a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Mifflin Presbyterian Church, 123 Granville St., Gahanna, OH 43230. We would welcome a few flowers; otherwise you are welcome to donate to the church on their website www.mifflinpres.org/give
Immediately after the service there will be a family visitation with a light buffet.
