Ernestine Surney, better known as Ernie (momma), was born July 27, 1948 to Charles Alexander and Betsy Ethel Porter. She was the oldest of five.
Ernie (momma) became a baptized Jehovah's Witness in 1969.
Ernie (momma) graduated from Fernwood Elementary in Chicago, IL, then Harian High School in Chicago, IL. She then continued her education at Tranco Trade School (downtown) in Chicago, IL where she received her college degree. Ernie worked at UIC Hospital of Chicago, IL. She later went to work Jackson Park Hospital where she later retired.
Ernie had many passions but her girls was always first in her life. One of the things she loved to do is get her girls dressed up and go pick up her sister-in-law, Touy Porter, and nephew Chuckie. For a day at the zoo, park, beach, and Drive Inn was a must. She always kept us on the go. She had such a beautiful voice, and she was such a talented artist.
Ernie (momma) married her high school sweetheart in 1967 to James White. Which she became an instant step mother to Joyce Ann Batton, and Jennifer Brown. Later in life she had her first born, Betsy White, second born Celia White, and her last Carlena Surney. Later on in life, she married the love of her life Michael Surney on February 14, 1996.
Ernie (momma) fell asleep in death on April 23, 2022. She preceded in death by her husband Michael Surney; Grandfather, Fred Sias; Grandmother, Bettie Crawford; Father, Charles Alexander; Mother, Betsy Ethel Porter; Younger brothers, Guy'se, Rod, and Timothy Porter.
She is survived by her baby sister, Cecelia Porter; Her loving girls, Joyce Ann Batton, Jennifer (Lonnie) Brown, Betsy (Don) White, Celia (James) White, and Carlena Surney.
Grandchildren, Marcus Jackson, Charles (Kia) Henson, Christopher Jackson, La'Toria Johnson, Shanyetta Carter, James Jackson, JuCole (Lucee) White, and Nijah Young.
Great grandchildren, Mya, Marcel, Lucille, Ma'Kiyah, Skylar, heaven, Deion Jr., Ja'Lyece, Harmony, Jaz'Lynn, and Aleen (AJ); Nephew, Charles (Angie) Porter; Nieces, Brandy Porter, Brittney Porter, and Cecelia V. Porter.
The family would like to thank: Lori and Dianna for being more than just the managers of my mother's building but her friend and confidant.
The many wonderful residents that became friends and family: Sandy, Maggy, Conny, Vicky, Opal, Paul , and so many others.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held, Saturday June 4, 2022 @ 2:00pm EST at 5225 Cherry Creek Parkway N. Columbus, Oh 43228 Community Room.
