Dr. Alexander Lawson Couden

Dr. Alexander Lawson Couden (Sandy or Doc to his friends), aged 85, of Rincon, Puerto Rico, died in his sleep in Canal Winchester, Ohio on May 13, 2018. He had the opportunity to tell stories and feel the love of his family and friends during the months preceding his death. The celebration of life including military honors will be held in the memorial garden of his daughter and son-in- law Jeanne and Cliff Pollock at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 1, 2018, 7825 Marcy Road NW, Lancaster Ohio. The family will be officiating. A private burial will follow the service. Family and friends are invited to a further celebration of his life at 6:00 pm at the Pollock home. Funeral arrangements were handled by Edwards Funeral Service.


A full family service with internment will be held at a later date in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Dr. Couden was born in Yonkers, New York on July 28, 1932. He was the third child born to Dr. James Skinner and Marion Moss Couden. Sandy served his country as an Air Force medic during the Korean era. He graduated from The Ohio State University Dental School and later continued his education to become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He practiced dentistry in Columbus, Ohio and later moved to Oneonta, New York to continue his practice. After a long career, he fulfilled a dream of building a home in Puerto Rico and enjoying his retirement there.

Sandy is survived by his brother Dick (Marge), 8 of his nine children, Susan (Charles Derrow), Jeanne (Cliff Pollock), Alexander Jr. (Dyan), Joan (Mike Tussey), Joseph, Marion, Devon
(Brian (Treharne) and Andrew (Rachel). He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren; Josh, Brandon (Kate), Alex (Starr), Joey (Jennifer), Jennifer, Jimmy, Tommy, Etana, Jakob, Sam,
Nik, Syd, James, Reagan, Brady and Rosie; two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Oscar; and scores of nephews, nieces and friends.He is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jim, and his daughter Jennifer.
