Bernaline "Sue" Taylor Ramsey

November 21, 1937 — April 27, 2020

Bernaline “Sue” Taylor Ramsey

Sue was born to Zanetta “Belle” Taylor and Orville James “OJ” Taylor in Akron, Ohio on November 21, 1937.  She was the youngest of three children born to Belle and OJ: the oldest being her dear sister, that became her second mother when theirs passed, Winifred Dorene Taylor Hagaman and Sue’s quiet, loving brother, James Max Taylor.

Sue passed away on Monday evening, April 27, 2020 from multiple organ failure at the age of 82 years young, with her oldest daughter extremely grateful that despite the current pandemic, was able to hold her mother’s hand as she passed on to a better place.  We know Sue is rejoicing with her mother that she spoke of so fondly, her beloved sister, and her best friends Joyce Smith and Barbara Van Pelt.

After graduating from Phoenix Union (PU!) High School in 1955, Sue worked briefly as a dental assistant in California, then followed Barbara to Tacoma, Washington, where Sue met her husband of 35 years, Robert Lee Ramsey.  They had three surviving children: Robin Lee Egan, Paula Dorene (Brad) Kellenberger and David Robert (Lauren) Ramsey.

Bob and Sue moved to Ohio where Sue was a homemaker, raising her three children until she decided to go back to school and earn her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio.  Sue worked for a number of years at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio until she retired from nursing and pursued administrative positions with both Ohio University in Athens, and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

The biggest loves of Sue’s life were her surviving grandchildren; Kerri Lee Lewton, Sean Robert Egan, Griffin Bradley Kellenberger, Noel Patrick Kellenberger, Reed Anthony Kellenberger and Gage Anthony Ramsey.  Sue is also survived by her adoring niece-who-was-like-a-sister, Georgia Hagaman Bushnell.

Sue loved singing and dancing.  She was a member of the Sweet Adelines choral group, and as her husband had two left feet, Sue danced instead with her young daughters, most memorably while watching The Lawrence Welk show on Saturday nights.  Sue loved researching her roots through genealogy, listening to Queen (the band not the monarch), playing badminton with her family on warm summer nights, bowling with her daughter Robin in a Mother/Daughter bowling league, and mowing the lawn on the riding lawn mower with her headphones on.

Sue enjoyed watching tennis tournaments, as well as being a huge OSU fan, especially OSU football.  She spent summers in the backyard pool with the kids when they were little.  Sue loved Mexican food almost as much as her grandchildren…!  She loved her girl’s lunch dates with her only granddaughter Kerri Lee, and reminded Kerri to “Eat dessert first because life is short and you never know if you’ll make it through dinner.”

As Sue became older, she loved to talk to everyone.  Anywhere.  Everywhere.  And young couples with a baby?  Oh how she loved to touch little baby toes!!!  *Side note: Special thank you to the customers and parents that shop at the Graceland Kroger’s and Sawmill Kroger’s for their patience and indulgence.

Sue was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, who, along with her family, will hold a private memorial service at the gravesite.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.  http://rmhc-centralohio.org/

Edwards Funeral Home in Columbus will be handling burial arrangements, and interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio.  https://www.edwardsfuneralservice.com/
